TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS from 5:00pm to 6:00pm
BELLYDANCE BASICS : FLOW CLASS
A dynamic and movement-dense hour of progressive warm-ups, bellydance basics, isolations, foot and arm patterns culminating in dancing a short and simple combination to put everything together at the end. The focus will be on continual moving practice, with lots of opportunity to drill movements, get into the body and experience the shapes, energy and stylization that animates this dance form. This class is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced dancers, and is a good warm-up for the more focused and challenging Technique and Families classes.
TUESDAY from 6:00pm to 7:00pm
BELLYDANCE TECHNIQUE : FOUNDATIONS
Also open to all levels of experience, this class builds on the Bellydance Flow class with more attention to technique and to refining the mechanics of isolations. We will focus weekly on one combination or short phrase, breaking down its parts, exploring, polishing and making it our own.
THURSDAY from 6:00pm to 7:00pm
TRIBAL STYLE: THE FOUR FAMILIES
This class is based on the improvisational vocabulary of American Tribal Style Bellydance®, a fusion form incorporating North African, Middle Eastern, Flamenco and Indian Folkloric and Classical dance forms and gestures. The four families of movement that make up its “language” will be explored in depth, with attention to the specific posture, alignment and arm carriage that characterize this style and other Tribal Fusion forms that have evolved. We’ll be dancing the basic movements as well as variations of the Arabic, Egyptian, Bump and Shimmy.
